Situated at the rear of the pub is The Captain Cook Microbrewery. The brewery was set up over ten years ago by the former landlord of the White Swan, Brian Skipp. Through a trial and error procedure, he and close friend Dave Ward set out brewing the first beer, which we now know as Captain Cook Slipway. Once perfected, they set there sites on brewing another beer which became Sunset. The Black Porter and Easter Island were quickly to follow, which made up the four original Captain Cook beers that we know and love today. Recently added to the list is Endeavour, brewed specially to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the brewery. Visit Real Ales for further information on the beers.
The brewery itself is small, tighnit establishment suitable for brewing our small range of ales. Found at the back right of the courtyard, it consists of four fermenters lined up the left wall and a brewing chamber based at the back. Each fermenter can hold up to four 9 gallon barrells which is a total storage of 144 gallons of beer. With popularity for deliveries ever increasing, the current brewer Ian Jackson is now brewing four times a week to keep up with demand. Ian is also brewing our new Endeavour, which is now available as part of our delivery service.
